It’s about Customers with needs. And building and leading a team to deliver and satisfy those needs.
Are we doing the right projects? Does our Portfolio of projects address the strategic objectives of our organization? Have we started too many projects to obtain the desired ROI?
Have we clustered like projects together into programs? Have we properly identified Programs and empowered managers to deliver these programs?
And then the rubber meets the road – Project Management. Document the needs. Gain approval. Secure the funding. Create the plan to deliver those needs. Monitor and control. Communication. Establish the Processes to deliver those needs. Obtain acceptance from the Customer.
But then there is always change. It wouldn’t be interesting without change, would it? Enter Change Control! We may not get the team we need when we need it. So we Crash schedules! Negotiate for resources! And the discipline of Project Management must come in to play to succeed.
Joe Caruso is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) adept at planning and organizing large multi-discipline initiatives, impacting mission critical business processes and technology at an enterprise level.
